Parent and Caregiver Counselling in Victoria, BC
What is Parent and Caregiver Counselling?
Counselling for parent(s), caregiver(s) and families helps family members of all ages build stronger, healthier connections.
Instead of focusing on one person, it looks at how parents and caregivers interact and how these relationships affect everyone’s well-being.
It can be useful for parents and caregivers of ALL ages including:
parents and caregivers for children of all ages
stepparent(s) and blended families
adult children
people in the “sandwich” generation (i.e., raising children + caring for aging parents)
seniors.
Parent and caregiver counselling is helpful when family members are facing challenges such as communication issues and parenting conflicts, or coping with mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression and trauma.
In family counselling, a therapist works with some or all family members to explore patterns that may be causing stress. The goal is to create open communication, teach practical skills, and build empathy.
This gives each parent or caregiver a chance to feel valued and understood.
Whether adjusting to change, healing from grief or loss, or simply wanting to strength connections, family counselling gives families the support they need.
Parent and caregiver counselling helps families grow together, even during difficult times.

Common Issues Addressed in Parent and Caregiver Counselling
Parent and caregiver counselling helps with many common family challenges.
Communication breakdowns are one of the main issues.
When family members can’t express themselves or listen well, it often leads to misunderstandings and tension.
Parenting conflicts are common.
Differences in discipline, values, or expectations can cause stress between parents and children or between parents themselves.
Mental health issues, like anxiety or depression, can impact the entire family, even if only one family member is struggling.
Counselling helps everyone understand these issues and find ways to support each other.
It also helps families, parents and caregivers through big changes like divorce, remarriage, or welcoming a new family member. These changes shake up routines and bring stress or feelings of loss.
Counselling offers a safe space to process these emotions together.
Most extended health benefits plans offer annual coverage for clinical counselling with a Registered Psychologist, Registered Clinical Counsellor, or Registered Social Workers. Find out more details by consulting your plan.
We also now offer direct billing for counselling with many benefits providers under the Telus eHealth platform. Contact us to learn more.
